on birthdays.

when i was growing up, and really, i still am, birthdays were the best. ever.
mine, my sister's, my other sister's, and my littlest sister's, it didn't matter,
there was cake and singing and presents and parties. what's not to love?
i still love birthdays, they just come with a little more stress now.
we have had a few birthdays that went a tad unrecognized (unrecognized=un'blogged').

here's what happened
first, my eli turned 3....3! i have been a mother for 3 years, yet at the same time i cannot remember a time when i wasn't a mother.
stress comes with 3 year old birthday parties weeks before-hand.
the idea.
the invites.
the food.
the cake.
the day before when i realize i still need to buy a present%#$@???
eli had so much fun. all he wanted was a strawberry cake. i warned him it would be pink (i wasn't sure how 3 year old boys feel about pink birthday cakes). he was so proud of it.

i'm not sure if he liked the cake better or waking up to a sea of balloons all over his bedroom floor. 3 is kind of a magic age.
balloons+strawberry cake+swimming party with cousins=best day ever
i wish i could crop myself out of this one....

the following month is brady's birthday. the only stress associated with a husbands birthday when we live near his mom is what to buy him. since i am the best husband gift giver ever, this causes no stress (truth be told, he is just easy to please). as i mentioned before, when mom is around, they take care of the cake and the party, etc. i guess it's something we moms will never outgrow. wanting to celebrate our children's birthdays. we had a great day in mona (not an oxymoron) and brady is now......31, but he doesn't look a day over 30 ;).

then my sweet abie. he turned 1. waahhhh! how does this first year manage to go by so quickly?
a birthday party for a 1 year old is not stressful, or at least it shouldn't be. they don't know. or care.
the stress comes when i realize:
i haven't even started to think about weaning,
still can't fit in my skinny jeans,
don't have the energy/motivation/desire to try and fit in my skinny jeans,
does this mean it's time to have another one?
when we finally got around to 'celebrating'
we had delicious d.c. cupcakes.
abe got a ball.
it was perfect.

annnnnndddd thennnnnn. me. 30. i had to turn 30 this year. had to. there was no way out.
so now, to the man at the pizza factory who told me, "you don't look a day over 27!" i say, "thank you" at the time i walked away wondering 'is that a thing?' because i was still 29, and 27 was, well, like the exact same as 29.
but now. now it's different.
it's like telling me i look a decade younger than i am.....hahaha. so, again. thank you.
as for the actual birthday, it was a great day. hats off to brady who went out of is way to make it special.
cooked breakfast
baked a cake
took me to lunch
took me to dinner
walked around georgetown
30 is not too bad at all. (plus i still don't look a day over 27)

Ok first of all, you are gorgeous. I miss you. A lot. Abe is so cute and I am glad you have not chopped his hair off yet. What are your plans with his hair? AJ has kind of similar hair and I just don't know what to do with it, because I never ever ever want to cut it!!! lol. I can't believe we are 30 this year. Strawberry cake sounds yummy and I love the balloons all over Eli's floor- gonna have to steal that one for Max this year as he will be 3 too!!!! And I am glad you had a great day in Mona. HAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA holy moly that is funny.

i just meant crop me out because the picture is a group of happy excited smiling boys and....me.
leaning into it in the background like a weird stranger trying to be funny.
